Ubuntu VirtualBox Image with Titanium

So a few people I have noticed lately have been having trouble getting Titanium Appcelerator to work with an Android virtual machine. I have put together a VirtualBox VM Image (VirtualBox is free from sun.com or http://www.virtualbox.org/ and available for Mac, PC & Linux), which contains the following:

  • Ubuntu Linux
  • Titanium Appcelerator w/ 1.4.0, 1.3.0, 1.2.0 SDK’s installed
  • KitchenSink pre-installed
  • Eclipse with the TiMobile.js Autocomplete plugin installed
  • Android Emulator already setup

Workspace path (default) is: /home/adminuser/workspace
Root user: adminuser
Root pass: adminuser
Root (sudo): adminuser

Please note at the time of writing I can’t get the new 1.4.0 KitchenSink application to run – however there is a sample HelloTitanium app that loads into the Emulator fine. The Kitchensink code is available on the VM in the workspace path for reference anyway.

Unzip all files into a single directory, then run WinRAR or UnrarX (Mac) to expand the split volume archives to one VirtualBox image.

While this VM is still running Titanium Developer with the 1.4 SDK, you should easily be able to install the developer and SDK updates on it once you start up the dev environment.
